Library subscribes to Scopus

2012年1月16日

Scopus is an abstract and citation database from Elsevier. Launched in 2004, Scopus covers over 19,000 peer-reviewed journals, scientific web pages and data from 5 patent sources.

Subject librarians have trialled Scopus in the past and found it to be an excellent product.  The search interface is clear, easy to use and suitable for undergraduates. There are advanced search options that postgraduates and staff will find useful.

As an abstracting and indexing database Scopus has a strong coverage of Asia, and emerging emphasis in South America.  It also has a good coverage of Humanities and Social Science material.

Scopus includes the Compendex (engineering) and Embase (pharmacy/health) database records, although without the specialised thesauri that make these databases more sophisticated as stand-alone products.

Scopus will be used by HEFCE to provide citation details for panels using these in the REF2014 and Scopus updates for academic and research staff will soon be available in the new University Research Information System, PURE.

The Library will be providing training for literature searching using Scopus, and there are  training materials available including a PDF guide  and online tutorials from Scopus InfoCentre.

If you would like further information or assistance, please contact your subject librarian.
