Celebrating research – Vice-Chancellor’s Research Day 2012

2012年1月19日

The third annual Vice-Chancellor’s Research Day took place earlier this week and has been hailed a great success.

Established in 2009, the day provides an opportunity to showcase the work of early career researchers at the University.

The event promotes multidisciplinary contacts and aims to enhance participants’ ability to communicate their research, and network with their peers at Bath.

The 11 speakers were nominated by the Deans to represent their faculties and were given 10 minutes each to present their research to an audience which included the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Deans, Associate Deans and Heads of Department.

The presentations covered a diverse range of topics, from nanostructured catalysts to the social benefits of education, and from urban water quality to the organisational implications of globalisation.

Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, Vice-Chancellor, thanked the speakers and audience. She said: “It has been another hugely successful and enjoyable day and demonstrates the breadth and depth of the multidisciplinary research we have here at Bath, as well as showcasing some of our very talented early career researchers.

“Each and every presentation has been characterised by a combination of genuine intellectual rigour in addressing a new area, coupled with a real concern that the research they are doing will make a difference to our world.

“All had an excellent understanding of the problem and how they can create a solution, and all have a genuine possibility of producing that solution. That is how research is going to flourish in UK universities and why our early careers researchers will be the leaders of tomorrow.”

A reception held afterwards provided a further opportunity for discussion and for making connections across disciplines and faculties.
